The Gap x GQ Collection 2015: My Highlights.

Every year (since 2007), fashion magazine GQ has joined forces with fashion brand Gap and their selection of the “Best New Menswear Designers in America” to create one incredible collection. It is an incredible, positive, project which gives recognition to some of America’s most talented up-and-coming designers. Plus … the “Gap x GQ Collections” is always a constant source for getting great designers products significantly cheaper!

Last year, John Elliot’s hoodies sold out within hours and we can no doubt expect similar pandemonium this year. Each of the selected designers offers a unique take on what’s ‘new and now’ for men, channelling styles and influences from both coasts.

Now in its fourth iteration, GQ and Gap have teamed up with David Hart, Stampd, NSF and The Hill-Side.

The collection includes tailored blazers and trousers, overcoats, leather jackets, graphic and classic tees, sweatshirts, sweatpants, denim, and field jackets, along with accessories — including shoes, hats, bags, socks, and ties.

I’ve had a look at the collection and it is very, very, good. It’s everything you need to look shap and styled this Autumn/Winter, all sold in the one collection.

Here are my highlights from the collection:

jacket

David Hart – Tweed Blazer

David Hart designs sophisticated clothing with a nod to the past. Inspired by the classic mid century American uniform, Hart updates the impeccable tailoring of the 50s and 60s with modern fabrics and colors. Think suits, topcoats, sweaters, and polos that are retro (without living in the past) and razor sharp (yet easy to pull off).

pants

David Hart Tweed Pants

Fantastic partner to the Jacket above.

wool

David Hart Windowpane Wool Pants

I love these. They stand out without being too flashy. Pair these with a crisp white shirt and a pair of brogues and you are winning.

tie

The Hill-Side Plaid Tie

The only accessory on my list. The Hill-Side are brooklyn-based brothers Emil and Sandy Corsillo who have traveled far and wide on a quest to find the world’s most unique textiles. Selvedge denim, authentic indigo, and unlikely camos have all made their way into a collection that’s influenced in equal measure by Japanese street style and American vintage.

tshirt

STAMPD Long Striped T-Shirt

Forget color and logos. Instead, mix athletic gear with streetwear—and focus on how it all fits. That’s the formula for Stampd, Chris Stamp’s mashup of West Coast surf culture with East Coast street attitude. The result is a line of futuristic sportswear with a gloriously simple color palette (black, white, repeat).

Gallous Lad Playlist – September 2015

Hey Folks!

It’s late on in the month, but here it is – the playlist for September.

It’s a solid mix of different musical styles that have been on regular rotation on my Spotify this month. I’ve broken down why each track has been selected below:

Justin Bieber – What do You Mean? (Acoustic)
I’m really not a fan of Justin Bieber; musically or otherwise. However, from the moment that I first heard this acoustic version of his new track “What do You Mean?” I was completely mesmerised.

No matter what your opinion of the Bieb is – give this one a go, it’s worth it, I promise.

 Letlive. – Banshee (Ghost Fame)
This one will be divisive.
I am a man who very much enjoys the heavier side of rock music …and this is one of the best heavy rock bands I’ve had the pleasure of being introduced to in the last 12 months. If you don’t like it – it’s understandable – skip to the next track!

Walking on Cars – Catch Me if You Can
Walking on Cars are an Irish pop band who are yet to release their debut album. An album is expected later this year – but in the mean time check out this teaser single. I can’t get enough of it.

Lene Marlin – Here We Are
You may remember Lene Marlin for her smash hit “Sitting Down Here” which rocketed up the charts in multiple countries many years ago. However, Lene is still delivering great tracks on a regular basis and this one of my recent favourites. A beautiful voice and person.

Mana – Labios Compartidos
Mana are essentially the Latin version of U2. I am currently learning Spanish and learning to Mana has really helped me accelerate and reinforce my learning. I have become addicted to this song. Let me know what you think.

Lonely the Brave – Backroads
Lonely The Brave are one of the most promising British bands to appear over the last few years. Their debut album This Days War was my favourite album of 2014. Backroads is one of the highlights from that album, you will definitely enjoy.

Lightguides – Old Bucket Seats
Lightguides are a Glasgow-based rock band. They are my favourite home grown band and I am very excited to share them with you.

Beartooth – The Lines
Another heavy track, for those who are into that sort of thing. This one is an absolutely belter.

Nico Stai – One October Song
After the head banging you will have been doing during the Beartooth track, I thought it would be good for us to settle back down with this slow acoustic track by Nico Stai. An incredible track which has been utilised in many films and TV programmes.

Barenaked Ladies – Odds Are
Canada’s greatest music export – Barenaked Ladies!
This is being thrown in here as I am going to see them live for the very first time this week and I am very very excited.

Up Close With: Sam Squire

This week I was lucky enough to spend some time chatting to well known blogger, style champion, and designer, Sam Squire.
Sam is pretty much living the dream; a young guy,  running a popular (and excellent) style blog and launching his own footwear brand, Squire Footwear, over the coming months.

SamLogo

We caught up with Sam to discuss his recent endeavor and even managed to get you a glimpse of the designs we can expect from his brand…

Hi Sam, its good to have you here on Gallous Lad.
Why don’t we start by you telling us a little about yourself? What’s your background? How have you got to where you are now?

Sure, I’m Sam – I am a 20 year old male blogger. I started my blog a little under 2 years ago, since then I have had some really amazing opportunities that have enabled me to create a really promising brand, a lot of hard work has gone in to it so it’s really exciting to see things taking shape!

I’m glad it’s all going well. I have been a regular reader for a while now. I was wondering where you initially got your passion for menswear?

I think I’ve always really been in to style and fashion and I guess it is something that really evolved into what I do now. I think it’s the same for anything, if you’ve got an interest for it and you work hard then you’ll get some wicked opportunities along the way!

Now you’ve had the opportunity to launch your own brand! What was your inspiration behind launching the Squire brand?

I think when it comes to blogging you’ve got to have something different and be able to fit in to a niche area. There’s so many great male bloggers out there and I wanted something different. I think the brand over all is about quality and passion be it for style, travel or all the bits in between and I try to reflect this in quality writing and photography. My blog isn’t all about being suited and booted, there’s so many great guys that do that already I felt I wanted to take a more casual approach, I guess I aim to appeal to the 16-30 market with it really.

I totally agree. My instagram feed is full of guys who can pull off the blazer and tie look. I actually find it more impressive now when someone can catch my eye with a simple hoodie and jeans combination. So, for the launch of the Squire Brand, was there a reason you have moved into footwear exclusively? Are you perhaps looking to expand the brand into clothing or accessories at a later stage?

I had this really awesome opportunity to work with an Italian shoe manufacturer to expand my brand into footwear. It was one I definitely didn’t want to turn down as they’ve worked with Christian Louboutin and other huge footwear designers. The plan has always been to create really high quality handmade Italian leather shoes that fit style and comfort needs, all for under £100! I obviously have loads of new things I am working on to develop the brand and do something new, that could be clothing…who knows?!

That’s brilliant, can’t really miss an opportunity that great when it comes around! … it must have been a bit daunting though, is it something you have done before? Where did you learn your design skills?

I have always been a really creative person and design has been something I have done all my life. I guess it was just transferring my web and digital design skills to shoes, it was pretty simple, really!

What’s your process for designing your shoes?

It all starts with a concept, once I have a slight idea I work with the development team to make the idea a reality, they draw up concepts and we work together to approve them. All of the ideas are by me, it makes it a very authentic brand as I would personally wear all of the collection.

How much do you pay attention to trends? Do you attempt to bring relevant trends into your designs?

I think looking at trends is a fundamental part of the process, I don’t want to release something that isn’t relevant to the current season, for example this Autumn we know white soles are really popular, so we have been striving to create really cool shoes with these really cool white soles. Everything I do has got to be right, because I want this to work and appeal to people!

Well the designs you have released to the public so far definitely appear to have appealed to your followers. I can’t wait to see more. What’s your personal favourite piece from the collection so far?

I have SO many pieces that are my favourite because after all I designed them so I definitely would wear them myself. I have some cool hightop sneakers that I am a real fan of so they are probably my current favourites – they feature monochrome black and white and it just goes really well!

Monochrome black and white is timeless. Always goes well and can pretty much be matched with everything! I look forward to seeing that design. I’ll pick them up for sure! When you are creating your designs you must take inspiration from all manner of sources. Who would you say is your style icon at the moment?

I don’t have one particular icon, I have guys that I appreciate their style for different reasons. David Gandy brings a really sophisticated approach to style and I am loving what he is doing right now, Oliver Cheshire adds a youthful and fun style to some really key on-trend pieces that I think is really great and really appeals to my age group. David Beckham really rocks some amazing style, he’s another I’d say definitely goes to influencing my style choices on a whole!

Can you share any shopping secrets you have discovered with our readers? Any advice or shopping hacks that our audience should know or may not have thought of?

Look at the mannequins! Visual merchandisers tend to be pretty good at pairing items of clothing and ensuring the mannequins are super on trend, often they work to what their HQ has decided is trending. If you take a look at the mannequins you can definitely be inspired to create an outfit that will keep your style current, knowing what pieces go together is super important!

Finally, when will we see the launch of the Squire Footwear range?
…and how do I go about getting a free pair?!

The collection will be dropping soon…that’s about as much as I am giving you right now! We’re working on some exciting things and I’m not going to spill it all right now am I, you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for a launch date in the coming weeks! As for free pairs, we make the shoes as and when we get orders to make sure they are bespoke to each customer, we can’t sample them just yet but I’ll shoot you over an exclusive discount code!

That’s what I like to hear! I knew there was a reason we interviewed you…
Listen, thanks for taking the time to speak to us and we look forward to the launch of Squire Footwear!

Sam was kind enough to give us a preview of one of Squire Footwear’s designs for their launch…

I love them, I’ll definitely be picking them up. What do you think?

Despite the only recent creation of Gallous Lad, I have been writing and creating content for external websites and blogs for a number of years now.

Throughout this journey, I have had the privilege of meeting a whole host of incredible writers…and more importantly, incredible people. These writers have gathered experience and expertise in a multitude of different sectors including food, music, fashion and travel.

I decided it would be interesting to pull on these resources to deliver the Top Tips from these sectors.

Today I bring to you the top tips from some of my favourite travel bloggers … and myself!

Jeremy Corbyn … A Man with Style?

Firstly…let’s address the first question anyone outside of the UK will be asking themselves as they read this:

Who the hell is Jeremy Corbyn?!

…Jeremy Corbyn is a British politician who was very recently voted the leader of a large British political party named “The Labour Party”.

I’d like to guarantee you that you do not need to know anything about Jeremy Corbyn or even British politics as a whole to enjoy this article.

Secondly,  I’d like to make an observation.

Why is it that full body length photographs of British politicians are so hard to come by??

Seriously, try it out for yourself … Google Jeremy Corbyn or David Cameron and 99% of the results will be of their FACE only!
You get to see below the shoulders if they are giving a speech…but even then it’s rare to get below the waist included in the photo…

Now that that business is out of the way – we can get down to business and address the issue at hand;

JEREMY CORBYN … does he have style?

Politicians have never been widely regarded as being a particularly fashionable group as a whole. However, there is a reason for this. It has been reported previously that the highest echelon of politicians have stated that they have “far too many decisions to make on a daily basis” and that “the last thing I want to worry about is another decision about my outfit”.

However, appearance is very linked to career progression – especially to politicians.

Politicians build careers on getting the general public to entrust them with the future of their country. Appearance is one of your biggest factors to make an impression and build that trust.
It would be awfully difficult to gain someone’s trust when you look like you could just as easily steal their wallet/purse.

I’ve been intrigued my Mr Corbyn over the last few weeks…both for his political beliefs and his overall appearance on camera.
He definitely appears to be one of these gentlemen who can look either pristine and well turned out …or as if he has just stumbled in from living on the streets. The differentiation of these two contradictory looks seems to be simply defined by the time of day that Jeremy is being filmed…

Never the less, I have kept a close eye on his appearance and I have finally come up with a decision.

Jeremy Corbyn is a man with a uniform!

Now, to be clear, by uniform I do not mean the type of uniform you see behind the cash register at the local Mcdonald’s restaurant. No no no. A man with a uniform is a man who regularly wears the same clothes as they believe it to be their best look and/or it is simple for them to pull off.

This is not necessarily a negative trait..some very inspirational men have been “uniform” guys.

For example, Steve Jobs had the Black roll-neck:

sj1

Mark Zuckerberg has his plain grey T-shirt:

mz1

Jeremy Corbyn’s uniform is significantly more aesthetically pleasing than these two examples. That’s for sure.

Jeremy opts for a pastel coloured open neck shirt with a blazer on top.

jc1 jc2 jc3

As you can see, this look CAN work very well (especially when paired with his contrasting brown satchel, hung over a single shoulder with confidence).
However, as you will also have probably spotted … Jeremy doesn’t always get the fit of his outfits quite right. This will always detract from what could be a pretty great outfit.

It’s when Jeremy steps away from his safe pastel shirt/blazer combination things can go very badly wrong for him…

jcb1 jcb2 jcb3

So … is Jeremy Corbyn a man with style?

I would say almost certainly not.

However, if he can nail the fit right, he will be looking pretty sharp in his “uniform” regularly!

…What do you guys think?

Style 101: The Belt/Shoes Dilemma

In life, there will always be old age questions which we shall never be able to answer:

  • Why is there something rather than nothing?
  • Is there life after death?
  • Why is that man wearing white socks with a black suit and shoes?

However … that OTHER old age question; whether your shoes and belt have to match … well, I am going to answer that for you right here and now.

The answer … is YES.

Matching your shoes with your belt pulls your look together and making this small change to your daily outfit can really take your personal style up a grade.

Y’see, belts aren’t just functional. Done right, belts can be the perfect statement to cap off a stylish look.

bs

When selecting your belts, it’s probably advisable to stick with the traditional colours such as black, dark brown and tan … especially if you aren’t particularly confident in your own style yet.

It’s important to state at this point that if you are wearing trainers, don’t match them with formal shoes. For the best look, try a belt that’s made of fabric or something equally casual. You can mix it up and experiment a little more in terms of belts for casual outfits. If your shoes are casual, the belt that you chose should coordinate rather than match. The more formal your outfit – the bigger the necessity that your shoes and belt should match!

If you are wearing a suit you really need to go the extra mile and try (as best you can) to match your belt and shoes in both colour AND leather finish (texture/shine).

We Need to Talk About Brown…

There are a significant number of brown shoe tones … and it can often be very difficult to select a belt that matches exactly. However, don’t panic too much, you don’t have to match exactly but it has to be close enough that they look the same at a casual glance. They will be separated by your trousers remember … they won’t be placed side by side.

Easy “Go To” Combinations

  • Black Leather Belt

Dark jeans and black shoes pair perfectly with a black leather belt for a smart, formal, look.

  • Dark Brown Leather Belt

Darker colors, like olive and maroon, should be worn with a dark brown leather belt.

  • Light Brown Leather Belt

When wearing brighter hues like light blue or green, go for a brighter brown belt.

If you stick to the combinations above, you simply can’t go wrong.

As you get more experienced and confident, feel free to experiment; however, other colours will always be more difficult to match. Ultimately, it comes down to the shoes that you are wearing rather than the outfit. If you are wearing dress shoes, the belt should match.

Ted Baker: My Ten Highlights of the A/W15 Arrivals

4. BATTON: Striped Webbing Holdall

The first accessory to make the list.

As a man who travels regularly, a good holdall is essential to me. I need something that is large enough to fit a few days worth of clothes in … but also small enough to not be cumbersome and unwieldy.

…oh – and it also has to fit on a plane as hand-luggage!

It’s a tough ask…but this BATTON effort from Ted Baker ticks all of my boxes

Another peacoat!

Sorry guys – but Peacoats are an essential menswear  winter item and I have a borderline obsession with them when they are produced correctly.

The ARION is right on trend for 2015; adorned with large scale checks and is trimmed with a super-soft shearling collar.

Travel Blog: Culross, Scotland

I spent last weekend in Culross, Scotland.

Culross is a village and former royal burgh in Fife, Scotland with a population of roughly 400 people.

I had previously heard quite a bit about Culross over the past few years, with many of my family and friends claiming it to be a beautiful place that I simply “must see”. These consistently positive reviews had also been backed up by the fact that the village had been voted as one of the most beautiful places in the whole of the United Kingdom.

I decided to finally make the trip…

I must admit, as I drew ever closer to Culross I began to think that I was on the receiving end of an elaborate practical joke.

The reason for my trepidation was that Culross has the unfortunate location of being placed between a multitude of power stations and chemical plants. However, as I drew into Culross itself – I knew I had arrived somewhere special instantly.

Culross is the closest thing you will find to a real life 17th century model town that you could ever find. It is a Brigadoon if I have ever seen one. It was so pristine I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to be greeted by humans beings or Hobbits. Had I wondered into the shire?

It is clear to see why the picturesque town has been chosen for the filming of such blockbusters as The Little Vampire, Captain America: The First Avenger and the highly popular Starz TV programme Outlander.

The main highlights from my trip has to be the Culross Palace which has been beautifully restored to it’s original mustard yellow colouring and the high standing Culross Abbey. It takes a bit of walking to get up to the Abbey – but it’s worth it when you get there.

IMG_20150815_133849 IMG_20150815_133923 IMG_20150815_134153 IMG_20150815_134352 IMG_20150815_142334 IMG_20150815_143900 IMG_20150815_144854 IMG_20150815_150256

An added bonus to Culross is the village’s proximity to one of Scotland’s newest landmarks The Kelpies; at approximately a ten-minute drive from the village itself. The Kelpies are a pair of 30-metre high horse head sculptures as designed by the now legendary Scot’s designer Andy Scott.

Style 101: Suit Buttoning Rules – Are you wearing your suit correctly?

Are you wearing your suit correctly?

To answer that question – you really need to understand the rules.

Here at Gallous Lad, we do not judge those that do not know the rules – at one point – we didn’t know either!

These are the rules that are passed down from generation to generation, but if they were never in your family to begin with – it’s can be difficult to just stumble across the information through your general life.

NEVER FEAR – GALLOUS IS HERE!

With Style 101, I hope to bring you some simple gems of information you may not have discovered elsewhere. Simple, small tips that have a big impact on how you look.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?

So first off, what are the rules?

Well this differs between how many buttons you have on your suit:

One Buttoned Suit –

The single button should always be buttoned when standing.

Two Buttoned Suit –

The top button remain buttoned when standing, while the bottom button remains undone.

Three Buttoned Suit –

With three buttons you have options – either button the top two buttons and leave the bottom undone … or simply button the middle button by itself.

More than three Buttons –

Leave it in the store / Bin or burn the suit.

There are the rules laid out for you in full. I’m not making these up, I promise.

I recognise that this is a lot of information thrown at you to try and visualize at one time.

So I’ll try and simplify it for you:

Memorise these two simple sayings and you can’t go wrong!

  • MORE THAN ONE? BOTTOM UNDONE
  • SOMETIMES, ALWAYS, NEVER

san

WHERE THE HELL DID THESE RULES COME FROM?

Believe it or not, these rules can be traced back all the way to King Edward VII.

To make a long, boring story as short as possible – Eddy was a massive fat guy that couldn’t get the bottom button of his waistcoat fastened.

Therefore, following on from the lead of their almighty it soon become a bit of a fashion trend among the regular plebs…and has been an unwritten fashion rule ever since.

ke

WHY SHOULD I FOLLOW THIS RULE?

I would say there are three main reasons for following this rule.

1) Not following it looks horrendous. You end up looking like you have a large belly with a weird shape – Piers Morgan style.

pm

2) The majority of those who violate this holy rule do it simply out of ignorance. No one has ever taught them how to wear a suit properly…or they simply do not wear suits often. Therefore, walking around with your bottom button done simply screams “I only wear this for job interviews and funerals” to those in the know.

3)The third and final reason you should definitely follow this rule is that Today’s suit are simply constructed to ensure a proper fit when the bottom button is open. Therefore, if your bottom button is fastened – you are wearing it incorrectly!

You may ask, then why have a bottom button at all?!

…and quite rightly too.

The truth is, I can’t answer this question. I haven’t found anyone who can. It’s like an industry mystery – but hey, we’ve had unnecessary cuff buttons on suits for ages and no one is complaining about them…

10 Essential Menswear Items for Autumn 2015

The time we dread all summer has come to pass for another year.

The sun is reverting back into hiding and the Autumn is driving full speed towards us.

From this point forth gentlemen – it’s only going to get colder and colder.

However, this doesn’t have to be entirely bad news!
With this cold comes the ability to mix up your daily outfits and begin to incorporate outerwear more and more. Gone are the days of t-shirts and shorts, but in comes warm jackets and textured layers.

So let’s have a look at the 10 essential items what we should ALL have in our wardrobe this Autumn…

1) Quilted Jacket

First on the list is definitely the reliable Quilted Jacket.

The reason this item jumps to the top of the list is the overall versatility of the item. The Quilted Jacket has the uncanny ability of being just as at home being paired with a shirt and tie combination as it is with a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt.

The jacket can be a great item on those cold winter mornings as you try to wake yourself up on your daily commute to work – or that jacket you so desperately need at 1am when you are thrown from a closed pub.

For a good balance between quality and price, I highly recommend you look into the Barbour range linked to the photo below:

quilt

2) Thick Knitted Jumper

A thick piece of knitwear is somewhat of a necessity over the next few months to keep you warm and comfortable in the winter winds. With “oversized” items currently being still very much on trend, rocking a thick oversized piece of knitwear will definitely turn heads on any streets.

However, as with all things oversized, occasion is very much a factor on where this item will be appropriate. Keep that in mind.

Keep it to the casual occasions and avoid wearing in the office and interview … unless you work in arts then it will probably be to your advantage!

For recommendations, I like Topman’s current collection of thick knit’s … have a look:

3) Premium Pair of Boots

A solid pair of boots are viewed as essential to a man’s wardrobe at all times of the year, but the durable and versatile footwear really comes in to its own during the autumn/winter months.

Picking the right pair of boots ensures that you can keep your socks dry while still looking excellent.

From this year’s range I suggest this Dune pair currently on SALE at House of Frasers:

4) Checked Flannel Shirt

The check flannel shirt  has been a mainstay in fashion design for many years. The old “lumberjack look” as some may call it. From the highs of the grunge years they have cemented their place as a wardrobe essential for any man.

For me, the flannel shirt is best teamed with some heavy duty boots (such as these ones above ^) and a darker pair of jeans. It is a flawless, easy and time-tested look. Make sure you have the necessary equipment to pull it off!

I recommend Uniqlo be your first port of call for Check Flannel Shirt … a great variety of style while maintaining an excellent quality/price ratio:

5) Tweed Blazer

Very similarly to the quilted jacket, this item is golden due to the versatility of its uses.

Shirt and tie or trainers and hoodie, both looks are instantly improved by the presence of Tweed on top.

I will mention that with this item more than some others on this list – it is ESSENTIAL that you get the fit right. An ill fitting blazer is one of the worst mistakes a man can make when it comes to style. Go to the tailor if you are not sure; let the professionals keep you in the right.

Debenham’s offers a strong range of Tweed Blazers with up to 70% off at the moment:

6) Shawl Cardigan

The Shawl Cardigan offers a different look from the ordinary cardigan and is perfect for layering in the autumn/winter months. Two staple looks include wearing the Shawl over a roll neck shirt – and the tshirt, shawl and tweed blazer look. Both are easy to create and easy to pull off.

The main selling point behind the Shawl Cardigan is that is offers a look which radiates class with zero effort. For the 2015 autumn winter season I recommend you have a look at this effort from Forever 21:

7) Peacoat

My peacoat is by far one of the favourite items in my personal wardrobe.

The versatility of style means that the peacoat can be worn to almost every occasion. A good peacoat fits just as well over a suit as it does over a plain black tshirt and jeans.

For the most use out of your peacoat – ensure to keep the colour as muted as possible. A good black or grey will almost always keep you in the right.

I recommend you have a look at this number from Superdry:

8) Gilet

The Gilet has made an undeniable resurgence over the last few years and the popularity of a gilet with the modern crowd is at an all time high. Who can take credit for this sudden change of public opinion is unclear; however, football managers up and down the country will no doubt have a wry smile to themselves. Take a bow lads.

The gilet is the perfect weapon against the unpredictability of autumn weather.

Too warm for a jacket but not convinced it shall stay that way? Its gilet time.

With the ability to be utilised as either a middle and top layer, the gilet’s main attraction is its ability to keep you warm without adding unnecessary bulk or uncomfort.

There are many great styles on offer at House of Fraser; however, for me – the more simplistic the gilet the better:

9) High Quality Scarf

I am going to cheat here slightly and say that ideally…you need two scarves!

Preferably, you will own a heavy duty scarf to see your neck through the very cold winter nights; however, you will also need a lightweight scarf to simply take the edge off of the growing autumn breeze.

In terms of lightweight scarves, you can see some great designs up and down the high street. Although my personal favorite collection of the current season is in Zara. I especially recommend this beauty:

10) Sunglasses

Sunglasses in winter? That’s ridiculous. That’s the view of some of the people I have helped with their style previously. Its important to state now in a bold fashion that: SUNGLASSES IN WINTER IS NOT MENTAL.

Google it, all your favourite fashion police will agree.

“The main purpose of sunglasses is to protect your eyes from UV light and make you look excellent” Gallous Lad

I would just like to highlight that both heat and temperature play no part in this excellent description above. It’s all about protection from light … light which is still very much prevalent throughout the Autumn and Winter months.

For Winter sunglasses, there are some rules you should follow though. I would generally avoid bright colours – stick to black if possible. For a good balance of quality and price, I suggest these Ray Bans:
